Forest Protector in Kerinci, Sumatra

This past week I had the pleasure of visiting the town of Kerinci in Central Sumatra. Kerinci is nestled inside of the Kerinci National Park, home to the most tigers in all of Sumatra (!). LFP joined forces with Wild Sumatra, an eco-tourism company that helps foreigners find the jungle experience they are looking for. Together, we visited schools throughout the Sungai Penuh area of Kerinci. The kids in this area were different than other places I had visited in that many of them had previous knowledge of slow lorises! Some had even seen them in the forest! Here is one of the classes becoming slow lorises themselves!

Writing down any previous knowledge of slow lorises

I myself went on a walk at night through part of the national park and was able to spot a few lorises. Look at that cute face! (you will notice the facemask is quite different than the Javan slow lorises we study here).ELLA BROWN
