Forest protector, education in schools in North Sumatra by the LFP team for the protection of Slow Loris!
Last week the LFP team were in North Sumatra, our quest was to spread the loris love! We did this by running Forest Protector education lessons in various schools.
Some children had heard about the Sumatran Kukang, but they knew little information about the animal and lots of children did not know what a slow loris was.
We asked the children to draw a slow loris and answer some questions. We then watched some videos of wild Javan slow lorises and looked at photos of slow lorises displaying different locomotion and behaviours. The children thought the slow loris was so cute! We read the Forest Protector story in Bahasa Indonesian, and completed some more fun activities.
The children were very enthusiastic about learning, and we feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to visit the schools and meet all the lovely children. Each child displayed a great connection with nature, which is an awesome insight into their bright futures and the future of our World. We are going back to visit the schools and hold further environmental education lessons, which we look forward to. A big thank you to Andrea and Greenhill Guesthouse.
We will keep you updated about the next school visits! Thank you for reading. Lots of loris love – LUCY HOLLAND x
