Hello everyone, this is LFP Research Assistant Nabil and I will tell you about my herping experience in Garut apart from Cipaganti.

Halo semuanyaa, disini Nabil Research Assistant di LFP sang Penggila Herpetologi 😊.  Aku hari ini akan menceritakan pengalamanku di Garut selain di Cipaganti tentunya tentang herpetologi.

Disuatu hari yang tenang tentunya di hari minggu sewaktu itu, aku merasa bosan dan ingin melakukan sesuatu hal yang menurutku bisa membuatku kembali semangat, tapi entah kenapa aku berfikiran untuk pergi ke alam. Di hari itu aku pergi dengan tanpa tujuan ke Garut kota sebelum melakukan ekspedisi kecil ku pergi ke alam. Aku memutuskan untuk makan terlebih dahulu di kota, kemudian aku berfikir untuk mengajak seseorang yang pernah menjadi Volunteer di LFP, ya Rizka namanya.

Untungnya, Rizka tinggal di Kota Garut, aku tak mau saat itu menjadi hari yang terburuk karena kehilangan arah karena aku tidak tau daerah Garut 😄. Kemudian aku dan Rizka bertemu setelah aku makan, dan kami memutuskan untuk pergi ke arah Barat garut sekitar gunung Cikuray. Dengan bermodal niat hati untuk menghibur diri pergi ke Air Terjun di gunung Cikuray bersama dengan Rizka, dan kemudian kami pun sampai lah di lokasi pada saat itu, kami istirahat dahulu di tempat itu selagi meminum Kopi Arabika khas daerah Cikuray.

Satu jam pun berlalu begitu saja saat menikmati secangkir kopi, kami pun memutuskan untuk pergi ke air terjun tersebut, pada saat itu jam menunjuk pukul 16:30 cukup sore untuk berkunjung ke air terjun, kala itu disana hanya kami berdua tak ada seorangpun di kawasan tersebut. Sesaat kami sampai, kami menikmati indahnya air terjun tersebut dengan melakukan sedikit foto-foto untuk mengabadikannya.

Selagi kami berfoto, aku mendengar hal yang aku kenal saat itu, yaitu suara panggilan kawin dari kodok. Kemudian kami beralih fokus kepada suara kodok tersebut, 1 jam 30 menit berlalu aku sudah lelah mencari suara dari sosok yang aku kenal tersebut, kamudian terdengar lah satu suara yang sangat keras, dan langsung tertuju kepada satu lubang yang cukup kecil di pinggir air terjun itu. Yes, aku melihat dan mendapatkannya.

Spesies kodok ini yaitu Leptophryne javanica, yaitu kodok yang berasal dari keluarga Bufonidae. Katak ini sangat langka karena menurut paper deskripsi spesies ini baru dan hanya ditemukan dikawasan Gunung Ciremai. Saat belum di deskripsikan kodok ini masih dalam satu spesies dengan Leptophryne cruentata yang statu IUCNnya hampir punah karena banyak diburu oleh orang untuk di jual dan dipelihara karena cantiknya. Spesies ini dideskipsikan oleh Dr. Amir Hamidy, M.Sc., yaitu seorang peneliti Herpetologi di LIPI (Lembaga Ilmu Penelitian Indonesia), dan saat itu kami (saya dan teman-teman saya) yang menemukannya di kawasan Gunung Ciremai tersebut, dan kami pun berkontribusi dalam penulisan Deskripsi spesies tersebut.

 On a calm day, of course on Sunday at that time, I felt bored and wanted to do something that I thought would make me happy, but somehow I thought of going to the forest. On that day I went aimlessly to the Garut city before doing my little expedition to go to the forest. I decided to eat first in the city, then I thought about asking someone who had been a Volunteer at LFP, named Rizka. Luckily, he lives in the city of Garut, I don’t want it to be the worst day because I lost my way because I don’t know the Garut area😄. Rizka and I met after I ate, and we decided to go westward towards the arrowroot around Cikuray mountain. With the gut’s intention to cheer ourselves up, we went to the Waterfall on Cikuray mountain with Rizka, and then we arrived at the location at that time, we took a break at that place while drinking Arabica coffee typical of the Cikuray area. One hour just passed while enjoying a cup of coffee, we decided to go to the waterfall, at that time the clock pointed at 4:30 PM enough in the afternoon to visit the waterfall, at that time there was only us there was no one in the area. For a moment we arrived, we enjoyed the beauty of the waterfall by taking a few photographs to capture it.

While we were taking pictures, I heard something I was familiar with at the time, namely the mating call of the frog. Then we shifted our focus to the sound of the frog, 1 hour and 30 minutes passed I was tired of looking for a voice from a familiar figure, then heard a very loud voice, and immediately aimed at a small hole on the edge of the Waterfall. Yes, I saw it and got it.

This frog species are Leptophryne javanica, which is a frog that comes from the Bufonidae family. This frog is very rare because according to the paper description this species is new and only found in the area of ​​Mount Ciremai. When it has not been described, this frog is still in the same species as Leptophryne cruentata, whose IUCN status is almost extinct because many people are hunting it to sell and maintain it because of its beauty. This species is described by Dr Amir Hamidy, M.Sc., who is a Herpetology researcher at LIPI (Indonesian Research Institute), and at that time we (me and my friends) discovered it on the Mount Ciremai area, and we also contributed to writing a description of the species.
