Slow Loris Observations: Shift

On November 2nd, Adin and I observed Mimi on 1st shift. We arrived at the Mimi sleeping tree, but heavy rain fell until 8:00 p.m.  We had trouble observing Mimi because around her tree there was lots of dense chayote. After this night, I obseved Acil with Rahmat on November 5th. Acil moved quite fast and at 2.15 a.m. the observation had stopped for a while because of rain fall until 2.50 a.m.

Tyrion

The next loris is Tyrion. I observed Tyrion this month 3 times. At the first observation, I and Aconk  on 2nd shift and we just found Tyrion at 00.20 a.m. in Bambu Surat. After that, Tyrion was travelling to a Jiengjen tree for food. During the travel, Tyrion preferred to walk on the ground. Surprisingly, he walked on a path which is often used by farmers. After eating  on Jiengjen tree, he walked on the ground again. This is a behavior that is more common now as people cut down trees.

A Wild Encounter

For the second observation, when we arrived, we clearly saw Tyrion’s sleeping position. During our observation, I saw  another slow loris (uncollared adult) approached Tyrion aggressively and Tyrion responded by hiding and moving very fast away from the area.

Tyrion was also eating gum from a suren tree and eating coffee. The third observation was I and Aconk on 1st shift. During our observation, Tyrion was very active. Tyrion was seen through extensive potato fields and tea garden until Shirley and Fernando’s area. Tyrion was eating gum from salamandar tree, jack fruit, and insect.  At the end of the observation Tyrion is seen sleeping.

Rain

Next, I observed Shirley with Aconk on 1st shift, we only observed for 5 minutes before really heavy storms began and we had to go home! This is a common problem now that the rainy season is starting in Indonesia again.
