Hello sahabat kukang! I’m Erfan or you can call me jane or whatever it just some intros. I began Volunteering for Little Fireface Project in 2019 and I want to share my experience when volunteering here at Little Fireface Project.
Pollard Transect
For my report to my university I am doing Butterfly count as my main topic. I want to compare the density of butterflies in organic and inorganic coffee gardens and I am using pollard transects or Pollard walks as my method to count the butterflies. This method involves one observer (me) walking a fixed path at a constant pace. Butterflies are counted by me when they are seen within 5 meters from my path on either side of the path, no backtracking only when the butterflies are seen above, in front of me as the observer. The first thing I did was prepare a track or I call trail and every trail divided into 7 gardens. For 3 trail organic gardens and 3 trail inorganic gardens so there are 6 trail or 42 gardens. then I had to put a marker in each garden to make it easier for me to make observations when walking straight. It can be seen in the photo it is one of the trail and partners who always accompany me, namely Kang Gun Gun.
Beautiful butterflies
I observed butterflies for 6 days, during the observation I found almost 15 butterflies on each trail. the butterfly that I found was very beautiful. for the family that I often find is the family from Papilionidae and Nymphalidae. Butterflies have an important role in the environment and also an indicator of a healthy environment and ecosystem. Not only that, butterflies are an important element of the food chain and are prey for birds, bats and other insectivorous animals. The most important thing is People enjoy seeing butterflies both around their homes and in the countryside.
