Cipaganti village is one of many villages on Garut regency which still have many natural resources. Vegetation in the forest and in the agroforest still has great diversity. Therefore, wildlife around the village can live with little worries. However, the decreasing environment quality is still an enemy to the future of wildlife. That’s why there are many conservation organizations on Garut regency and Little Fireface Project is one of them.
The first impact with Cipaganti
Hi, I’m Hafizh currently a volunteer at Little Fireface Project and I’m working on Coffee Plantation assessment. The first time we came here, it was late at night and all we can saw is pitch black. The next morning, I can finally see the beautiful nature of Cipaganti village. The view of the forest and Papandayan mountain is stunning. It has diverse vegetation with so many functions that support the life of this village.
Vegetation diversity around the village
There are several types of vegetation around this village that can be categorized by its function. Some of the plants are food such as vegetables and fruits planted by farmers in Cipaganti. The most common around the village is labu, rice, tea, and coffee plantation. Another commonly found vegetation is Suren, Eucalyptus, and other trees that are planted as boundary plants. They plant them to divide between different fields, prevent soil erosion, and shade plant. Moreover, they’re also useful as a nest for many bird and connectivity of movement for some mammals like lorises and civets.
Why it’s important?
Sadly, there still deforestation activity around the forest and many people from villages near the forest still do not understand the urgency of maintaining the diversity of the vegetation. With increasing vegetation diversity the effect of invasive species will decrease. So, maintaining forest diversity is good for wildlife and it’s has a good impact on the life of the villages too. Also, this beauty of nature is not only ours, but our descendant also has a right on it. BALADZURI HAFIZH FATHONIi
