Wild Encounters and Conservation: My Time with LFP

Hello, I’m Gaya, a forestry and environment student at IPB University. I just finished my internship at Little Fireface Project. It feels quite good to be able to share a little bit of my internship experience at LFP even though it was only 1 month.

There were quite a lot of activities that I did at LFP. On the first day of my internship, I was invited to a school to teach conservation education to children. I remember, at that time we gave material about the introduction of natural objects in the surrounding environment. I was very happy to see the enthusiasm of the children to learn at that time. On the next day, my team and I went to Darajat, Garut to monitor tree planting. We saw the farmers’ gardens and interviewed the farmers regarding the results of tree planting. It was quite exciting because we were able to travel quite far and interact directly with farmers.

Then the main activity at LFP is the observation of Javan slow lorises. We observed its behavior, confirmed its whereabouts, and checked its sleep site.  It was so exciting to observe the loris’ behavior, because we could see its cuteness and its silly behavior. There were some unforgettable moments when observing loris behavior. One of them was when we found a baby loris with its mother Suky. It was the first time we had seen the baby, and at the time it had fallen to the ground and Suky, its mother, rushed to pick it up and hold it in her lap. It was great to see the cute baby loris in its mother’s arms.

My internship experience at LFP was very memorable. In addition to the many fun things I did, the staff here are very humble and cool in teaching and accompanying me at LFP. The people in Cipaganti are also very friendly and open. I feel very happy to have the opportunity to intern at LFP, hopefully all the knowledge and experience I get, will be useful in the future.

Observing Slow Loris

Hello, saya Gaya, mahasiswa kehutanan dan lingkungan IPB University. Saya baru saja menyelesaikan magang di Little Fireface Project.
